DCI George Kinoti has warned of the risks of child abuse to Zoom users as parents have been advised to be cautious of who their children are interacting with on social media as they take online classes while at home.
Zoom has become the “go-to” video-streaming platform for business, leisure and family meetings during the lockdown. DCI Kinoti has said cases of immoral individuals taking advantage of learners through internet-based platforms are increasing sharply once children start learning online.
According to the DCI, the suspects are targeting learners on Zoom and other social media platforms with the aim of enticing them into immorality.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations, as a cautionary measure, wishes to sensitize and inform parents, guardians and educational institutions on noted increase and disturbing trend on offenses against children, during this Covid-19 Pandemic times.

In a move to crack down the habit, parents and learning institutions have been urged to monitor activities of children online and also know where the learners are every time since some of them may have been enticed to meet strangers they encounter online.
The perpetrators of these offences have taken advantage of the online learning in schools and learning institutions where children are undergoing zoom classes and other digital learning programs to lure children for exploitation.
